Hi, I’m
Philippa Smith AM
My career and life have included Board, CEO, Tribunal and Chair experience both inside and outside government. My focus has been on public policy and accountability issues. Topics have spread across income security and employment policies, consumer rights, health care and standards, telecommunications, media policies, food standards and superannuation.
My career as a BEc started as a policy analyst and advocate (ACOSS and ACA). My reputation developed across a range of stakeholder groups and I initiated and implemented several community and strategic firsts (including the Health Care Complaints Unit now Commission, and Consumers Health Forum).
In the 1990s I held the statutory position of Commonwealth Ombudsman for some 5 years where we undertook a number of systemic reviews as to causes of complaints and accessibility issues. I was then CEO of the Association of Superannuation of Australia (ASFA) for nearly 10 years.
Since then, I have been on a range of Boards and administrative tribunals including: FSANZ (chair), First State Super, TIO and AHPRA. I am also involved in not-for-profit activities where I can contribute to the strategic direction and governance of those organizations.
I was awarded an Order of Australia and a Centenary Award for my work in the public interest.
